Cabarete, Dominican Republic Jazz Festival

Who says that good things cost money? The jazz festival in the Domincian Republic kicks off this year Centro Leon in Santiago on the 25th November 2010 and moves to Cabarete's world famous surfing beach on the 26th and 27th November. Find your favorite spot on Cabarete beach and soak in the sounds and the sun. This years line up on the beach includes Sandy Gabriel, Danilo Pérez Trio, Chucho Valdés & Afro Cuban Messengers and Crispín Fernández con Rodhen y su Banda.

Cafe de Valdesia

The National Office of Intellectual Rights (Onapi) has awarded the Federation of Coffee Growers of the South (Fedecares) the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status. Their coffee is cultivated in the Valdesia region, which spans San Cristobal, Peravia (Bani) and Ocoa provinces.

The coffee is known for its large grains, low acidity, a sweet, fruity taste and balanced character, according to Onapi. The coffee will be known as Cafe de Valdesia.

Over the years the federation has received technical support and marketing advice from international organizations like Oxfam GB and Intermon Oxfam (Spain).

Rotary club to help provide clean water.

Since 2003, the Broomfield Evening Rotary Club has had a World International Service Committee composed of three club members. Over the years, it has reviewed many World Community Service Projects, and, using the committee`s research, the club has chosen to participate in 10 clean water and sanitation projects in Asia, Africa, and Central America over the past seven years.  Now they are helping out in Puerto Plata.  Check out the link for more information.
